NAIOP San Diego Chapter President's Message
Matt Reid, 2010 San Diego Chapter President
What an honor it is to be writing this message to the members of the San Diego Chapter of NAIOP. This organization has meant so much to me and my career, that I was honored and humbled when asked to consider leading the group in 2010. I commit to lead the NAIOP San Diego Chapter to the best of my ability, tapping into the many talents that are available through our very energetic and willing members who have already reached out to me and asked to be a more involved part of this organization.
To all of our members, I say thank you for the opportunity and let’s make 2010 a great year through teamwork, commitment to the betterment of our industry and one another, and to doing the right thing - always. Our commercial real estate industry in San Diego County is unique. We compete, we work hard, we socialize, we enjoy each other’s company, and we succeed. It is not like that in most other commercial real estate communities throughout the US. Let’s use this uniqueness of San Diego to our advantage, to move forward, to smooth out the road ahead and to make 2010 a year to remember.
To that end, we will have many different initiatives in 2010 that will be the focus of our Board of Directors and our group as a whole. These initiatives are important, and will require focus, dedication, and the collective efforts of our membership and sponsors to be successful and productive.
Some of the major things we will be most concerned with in 2010 include:
THE NEW NAIOP - On a national level, NAIOP will be rolling out a new logo, a new website, and new branding that will better describe what NAIOP is all about. The NAIOP part will stay the same, as there is a tremendous amount of recognition with and goodwill in the acronym. The change will be that we will now be known as NAIOP – THE COMMERIAL REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION which truly tells the story of who we are. This change has been a long time coming and I encourage you all to check out the new website that will help us to solidify our position as the recognized premier commercial real estate organization in the country.
DEVELOPING LEADERS - Where would we be without the energy and enthusiasm of our Developing Leaders and their advisory council? These dedicated young professionals continue to amaze our more seasoned members with their creativity and willingness. These folks are the future of our industry and through our mentorship program, we are committed to their development and the nurturing of their ideas.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS – This initiative is probably the most near and dear to the majority of our membership’s hearts as it really affects all of us and our ability to create and build and maintain the structures that house jobs which are the lifeblood of our industry. Our Legislative Affairs Committee will continue to advocate and affect legislation on behalf of our members, while also lobbying our constituents for the betterment of the communities in which our members work and live.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH – To share the fruits of our labor with those in need, we will continue to contribute to and support various charities and scholarships to both USD and SDSU. Additionally, we will continue our Adopt-A-Platoon program with our support of Delta Company and Alpha Company (1st MSOB) and their families at Camp Pendelton as they continue to protect us and our nation during their deployment in Afganistan.
These are just a few of our plans for 2010. What I ask of you as members of NAIOP is to get involved in one of these or another of our initiatives as we are always looking for help to further our causes. Involvement in your NAIOP will only serve you and our industry as a whole better. I am honored to be NAIOP San Diego’s president for 2010 and I look forward to working with a talented and dedicated board of directors to make 2010 memorable for all of us. Please call me anytime with your ideas as I am here for you.
